“Maroon Memories” Oral History Project
In 2020, the CofC Alumni Association undertook a project in collaboration with Publishing Concepts to capture and preserve stories from our alumni.
To resonate with our alumni community, I branded the project “Maroon Memories”. You can view the webpage on the CofC Alumni website here.
I worked with the PCI team to solicit our alumni with direct mail, email, and social media marketing. An introduction and contact information was provided to initiate the process. When our alumni called in, they spoke to a PCI representative, sharing stories and even had the chance to upload photos from their time at the College as well.
The goal of the project was to engage alumni, collect history, update their alumni records, create an opportunity to give back, and raise the visibility of the Alumni Association Fund.
The project began in 2020, and finished in November 2021. We saw great participation, which we can give partial credit to the pandemic and working from home. While we couldn’t be together on campus events as much as a typical year, this gave the CofC Family a sense of togetherness.
Raising the Visibility of the Alumni Association
After stories were submitted, participating alumni could purchase the Maroon Memories book, a beautiful hardback book with the stories and images collected. We also launched a collection of CofC Alumni gifts available for purchase as well.
Final Response Numbers
At the conclusion of the project, we totaled:
6,007 respondents
4,575 stories were collected (76.2% of respondents shared a story)
$12,290 raised for the Alumni Fund
5,758 email addresses confirmed
5, 431 addresses confirmed and collected
8,907 cell phone numbers collected (new information for Blackbaud database)
